Streets near Hoan Kiem Lake to become pedestrian only at weekends

Hanoi is planning to close streets in the vicinity of Hoan Kiem Lake to vehicular traffic at weekends and reserve them for pedestrians only starting from September 1.

According to the Department of Transport, the new regulation is effective from 7pm on Friday to midnight Sunday.

Some streets such as Dinh Tien Hoang and Hang Khay will be completed closed to motor vehicles while in some others, such as Trang Tien and Hang Bai, only sections leading to Hoan Kiem Lake will be shut down.

Police officers will be deployed to direct the traffic from afar while the transport department will also open new spaces to park vehicles near the pedestrian area.

In another move to boost tourism, the capital city will provide free Wi-Fi access in the Hoan Kiem Lake area where tourists can enjoy the service for up to 30 minutes after entering their phone number.

According to Hanoi’s Department of Information and Communications, Wi-Fi broadcasting stations will be installed at 21 sites around the lake.
