Quy Phuoc was given the honour as he meets the criteria set for a flag bearer, regarding appearance, achievements and prestige.
The 20 year old from Da Nang city is defending SEA Games champion in the men’s 100m freestyle and 100m butterfly disciplines. He is also one of the ‘golden’ hopes of Vietnam at this year’s SEA Games, alongside Nguyen Thi Anh Vien and Tran Duy Khoi.
Quy Phuoc has had a spectacular 2013; smashing the men’s 100m freestyle crown at the fourth Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in July and taking nine gold medals at the National Swimming and Finswimming Championships two months later.
Phuoc is expected to bring luck to the Vietnamese team during their competition at the 27th SEA Games.
