Vietnam firmly in second place with 48 gold medals

Nhan Dan Online - Six additional gold medals won today tightened Vietnam's held on second place in the provisional SEA Games tally with 48 gold medals, a three-medal advantage over third placed Indonesia.

The country’s track and field athletes had a successful day of competition, contributing half of the day’s gold medals thanks to Vu Thi Huong (women's 100m), Do Thi Thao (women's 800m) and Nguyen Van Lai (men's 5,000m).

Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son finished first in the men's rapid chess event to garner his second gold medal at this year's SEA Games, following the men's blitz title he won three days ago.

The remaining gold medals went to shooters Le Ngoc Mai, Trieu Thi Hoa Hong and Nguyen Thuy Dung in the women's team 25m sport pistol, and Muay fighter Bui Thi Quynh in the women's 48kg weight category.

Seven more silver medals were recorded by Loc Thi Dao, Duong Thi Kim Lien and Nguyen Thi Quyen Trang (women's team one-string, archery); Bui Thi Nhat, Nguyen Thi Trinh, Tran Thi Sam and Pham Thi Thao (women's LW4-, rowing); Nguyen Duc Hoa (men's rapid chess), Pham Le Thao Nguyen (women's rapid chess), Nguyen Van Quang (men's petanque), Vu Thi Ly (women's 800m) and Quach Thi Lan (women's 400m hurdles).

Vietnam's bronze medal tally also increased by seven; four in track and field (men's 400m hurdles, men's 800m, men's javelin and women's triple jump), two in rowing (men's M8+, men's LM2-) and one in cycling (women's 128km).
