Vietnam consolidates second-place position with six additional gold medals

Nhan Dan Online – Vietnam strengthened its hold on second place on the provisional SEA Games standings with six additional gold medals won in wrestling and swimming on December 12.

The wrestlers did a marvelous job today, dominating all four disciplines in which they competed and adding four more gold medals to Vietnam’s collection.

The gold medals went to Bui Tuan Anh (66kg), Nguyen The Anh (60kg) and Nguyen Huy Ha (55kg) in the men's freestyle, and Nguyen Thi Lua in the women's 55kg freestyle discipline.

The swimming team contributed two gold medals thanks to a sparkling performance from aquatic prodigy Nguyen Thi Anh Vien.

Anh Vien lived up to expectations, winning Vietnam's 15th gold medal in the women's 200m medley as well as the 16th in the 200m backstroke event, with a SEA Games record time of 2:14.80.

Vietnam's only silver medal in today's competition went to Nguyen Thanh Quang in the men's K1 500m (kayak).

The country also won three more bronze medals in the women's K4 500m (kayak), the men's 400m medley (swimming) and the cross-country mixed relay discipline (cycling).
