Vietnam got off to a promising start, with relentless attacking waves on the Thai goal. They took the lead in the 33rd minute when Nguyen Thi Nga's strike hit the crossbar and striker Minh Nguyet sprung on the rebound and rolled the ball into the net.

The goal inspired the ladies in red to play more comfortably. Vietnam should have finished out the first half with a 1-0 lead, but a defensive mistake in the 40th minute enabled Thailand’s Seesraum to even the scores.

Thailand completed the reversal two minutes into the second half, as striker Maijaren curled the ball beyond the reach of goalie Kieu Trinh and into the top corner.

Throughout the remainder of the match, Vietnam intensified their attacks, seeking to equalise the score, but failed to break down Thailand's stubborn defence.

The narrow 2-1 victory handed Thailand the championship title, while Vietnam, as runners-up, received the silver medal.
