Vietnam surpasses SEA Games gold medal target

Nhan Dan Online - The Vietnam sporting contingent picked up seven more gold medals today, bringing its gold medal total to 73, 3 more than the target of 70 gold medals set prior to the 27th SEA Games.

Kempo fighter Do Hong Ngoc opened Vietnam's gold medal account for the day with a victory over Dian Pertiwi Said of Indonesia in the men's 48kg combat finals, before her teammates Duong Lan Phuong and Tran Thi My Duyen won the second in the women's doubles team demonstration.

Taekwondo artist Nguyen Trong Cuong knocked out his Cambodian opponent Sophal Mao in the men's 87kg combat finals to bring home the third gold medal.

Muay artist Bui Yen Ly won the 70th gold medal for Vietnam after toppling Grace of Myanmar in the women's 51kg combat discipline.

Vovinam artists Nguyen Thi Kim Hoang and Ho Minh Tam took home two more gold medals for Vietnam after overcoming their Lao opponents in the women's 55kg and men's 65kg combat final matches.

The 73rd gold was captured by Muay fighter Nguyen Thi Ngoc, who beat Myanmar's Zar Han in the women's 60kg combat finals.

Vietnam also secured seven additional silver medals in today's competition, which went to the women's volleyball team; Nguyen Thuy Duong (women's 51kg combat, Kempo); Le Tien Dat (men's singles, table tennis); Dinh Quang Duc (men's over 87kg combat, Taekwondo); Bui Thi Quynh (women's 48kg combat, Muay); Ngo Trieu Nhat (men's 51kg combat, Muay) and Nguyen Phu Hien (men's 57kg combat, Muay)

Five more bronze medals were also added to Vietnam's tally with two in Kempo, two in Vovinam and one in Petanque.
