The event was attended by Politburo members: Permanent Secretary of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat Le Hong Anh and Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc; Secretary of the Party Central Committee and head of its Commission for Mass Mobilisation Ha Thi Khiet.

The three-day festival has brought together representatives of nearly 100 domestic provinces, tea enterprises and traditional tea villages around the country. The event has also drawn the participation of delegates from foreign countries that import tea products from Vietnam including the Republic of Korea, Japan, Thailand, Brunel, Russia and Turkey.

In addition to the opening and closing ceremonies, the third festival will feature other cultural and arts activities including a festival honouring Vietnamese tea and ASEAN culture and a ‘Miss Tea-land’ contest, as well as arts performances in Tan Cuong, La Bang, Diem Mac, Tuc Tranh communes and a photo exhibition depicting the beauty of land used for growing tea.

A seminar discussing measures to improve the quality and value of Thai Nguyen tea products, along with a trade and tourism fair will also be held on the occasion.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc praised the outstanding achievements that Vietnam’s tea industry has gained over recent years, particularly the hard work of those involved in tea production, processing and trading in Vietnam.

He also emphasised that the tea industry has become an important economic sector, significantly contributing to the socio-economic development of the country.

The Deputy PM expressed his hope that Vietnam’s tea industry, particularly in Thai Nguyen, would continue to develop on both the domestic and international markets.

The biennial event is held to honour tea growers and processers as well as to promote tea products and preserve the values of tea culture in Thai Nguyen province in addition to other localities around the country. It also offers a good opportunity for traditional tea villages and tea companies to exchange experience and participate in international incorporation.

With an area of nearly 20,764 square metres for planting tea trees, Thai Nguyen produces around 200,000 tonnes of tea annually, of which nearly 10,000 tonnes are exported.
