Politburo member Dinh The Huynh, who is also Secretary of the Party Central Committee (PCC) and head of the PCC Commission for Education and Communication, gave the instruction at a ceremony in Hanoi on November 15 held to mark the newspaper’s 60th anniversary (1953-2013) and to award the Labour Hero order, second class for its outstanding contributions to charity activities.

Politburo member Huynh congratulated the newspaper on receiving the accolade, and commended the distinguished tradition of its journalists.

He praised the newspaper’s efforts to provide up-to-date information in a format that is both modern and attractive to readers. On top of its information and communication tasks, the newspaper has also contributed greatly to social charity activities as well as cultural and sporting events; thus helping enrich the spiritual life of the youth.

He also urged the Secretariat of the Youth Union Central Committee, the newspaper’s governing agency, to create favourable conditions for the newspaper to fulfill its assigned tasks

Politburo Huynh closed by expressing his hope that the newspaper’s staff and journalists would consolidate their solidarity for the further development of the publication, in a matter befitting its name – Tien Phong (Vanguard).

Speaking at the ceremony, Editor-in-chief Le Xuan Son reviewed the 60-year history of the newspaper, which has served as the voice of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and a forum for Vietnamese youth since its foundation on November 16, 1953 in Son Duong district, Tuyen Quang province.

Over the past six decades, many generations of the publication’s staff have made every effort to produce an interesting newspaper with a high sense of education and guideline for readers. The newspaper has also been involved in encouraging and organising youth movements and contributing to the national revolutionary cause.

The newspaper’s four publications have established themselves in the national media landscape and have won the appreciation from their readers, mostly youth union members.
