The awards are based on votes from readers of renowned American travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler.
First published in 1987, Condé Nast Traveler is one of the world’s leading travel magazines. Its annual rankings, including the Readers’ Choice Awards, are widely recognised for their credibility, as they are compiled from the opinions of millions of international readers.
In the 2024 edition of the Readers’ Choice Awards, Viet Nam ranked 15th among the world’s 20 best countries, earning 89 points.
In the 2025 Awards, Viet Nam’s tourism brand has continued to make its mark, coming 6th in the “World’s Friendliest Countries” category and 9th in “World’s Best Destinations”, surpassing many other popular travel locations.
With a score of 97.27 points in the World’s Friendliest Countries category, Condé Nast Traveller praised Vietnam for its lush terraced rice fields, ancient towns, and emerald bays, describing the country as truly unique and unlike anywhere else in the world.
It notes that community is a noticeable cornerstone of society in the country, from the unique urban “sidewalk culture” comprising curb-side food vendors, exercise groups, and barbers, to the intimate guesthouses of remote villages.
“No trip to Vietnam is complete without an experience of the legendary Ha Giang Loop, either – a four-day motorbike route that snakes around deep mountain valleys,” says Condé Nast Traveller.

The Viet Nam National Authority of Tourism noted that Vietnam’s captivating beauty has helped the country climb the ranks of the world’s most beloved destinations for adventure travellers over the years.
Earlier this October, The New Zealand Herald also praised Viet Nam as a must-visit destination. For New Zealanders who love adventure, warmth, and authenticity, Viet Nam remains a top choice on their travel bucket list.
