According to the Organising Committee of the Global Tourism Fair 2026, Asia is emerging as one of the destinations receiving the greatest interest from French tourists this year. Viet Nam ranked among the top five destinations in the region most searched for by travellers from this country.
This information was announced ahead of the opening of the Global Tourism Fair held in Paris, an event lasting until March 15, 2026, offering a space for discovering culture and attractive destinations for visitors.
A survey by the Organising Committee shows that about 98% of residents in the Ile-de-France region intend to travel in 2026, with the trend increasingly expanding to international destinations.
Specifically, 73% of the tourists surveyed plan to travel abroad. At the same time, nearly 50% said they travel overseas at least twice a year.
Regarding destination choices, Europe ranks first with 38%. However, Asia has risen to second place with 28%, the highest level since the survey was first conducted in 2019.
Among the most searched destinations, besides familiar European countries such as Italy and Spain, Asia stands out with impressive destinations including Japan, Viet Nam and Thailand.
The Organising Committee of the Global Tourism Fair – Paris 2026 stated that these results reflect an increasingly clear trend among French tourists in seeking new destinations rich in cultural and natural experiences. About 28% of respondents said they are particularly interested in places that are less known or newly emerging on the international tourism map.
The survey also shows that experiential tourism is becoming increasingly popular. French travellers expressed a desire to explore local culture, traditional cuisine as well as activities associated with nature.
Accordingly, Viet Nam is assessed as one of the outstanding destinations in Asia thanks to the combination of cultural heritage, distinctive cuisine and diverse natural scenery.
In terms of travel style, according to the Organising Committee of the Global Tourism Fair – Paris 2026, most travellers still prefer self-organised trips. However, the trend of choosing package tours is also increasing.
In addition, French travellers begin searching for information about their journeys quite early, with about 60% planning at least three months before the trip.
With more than 200 international booths and many experiential activities, the 49th Global Tourism Fair 2026 continues to affirm its role as one of the most representative tourism fairs in Europe. Here, new tourism trends will be introduced and shaped. The public can also explore destinations, tourism products and the cultural colours of many regions around the world.
