The three-day workshop closed on October 12, having gathered representatives from Government agencies, the EU and the United Nations who discussed concrete activities to strengthen their capacities to deal with and mitigate the risks in question.

In his opening remarks, Duong Quoc Hung, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety, reiterated Vietnam’s engagement in minimising CBRN risks.

Also at the opening of the event, Josephine McCourt, representative of the EU, congratulated Vietnam for its progress in developing this important national action plan and highlighted the EU’s continued support in this domain.

Harro Wittermans, the UN Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute’s Regional Coordinator for Southeast Asia, underlined the importance of the document produced during the series of workshops in guiding the allocation of available resources and in engaging regional and international partners to jointly address CBRN risks.

The overall purpose of the national action plan is to develop a national vision for CBRN risk mitigation and to identify priorities for capacity building in this area.

It also facilitates the identification and implementation of projects and ensures that capacity building is part of a coordinated and sustainable approach.
