Accordingly, the officers and staff of the Vietnamese Blue Berets have prepared hundreds of gifts, including candy, toys, books, crayons, etc., to organise this event for the children.
The highlight of the programme is the activity of making toys from recycled materials. Under the guidance of the Vietnamese soldiers, the children turned old newspapers, plastic bottles, nylon bags, cans into kites, pinwheels, toy cars, boats, animals, etc.
This activity not only contributed to protecting the environment but also stimulated the children’s creative imagination and excitement.
In Abyei, the lives of people, especially children, are still difficult. Lack of clean water, food, health care services and education has been a reality for many years. Most of the children have no shoes to wear, no school bags, and many have never held a comic book or coloured.
The concept of “International Children’s Day” is even unfamiliar to the majority of children here. Therefore, in the process of carrying out many important tasks assigned by the United Nations Mission, such as: upgrading roads, repairing helipads, building smart barracks, the 3rd Engineer Corps has always strived to organise many social and volunteer activities to contribute to improving the lives of the people of Abyei, especially bringing better things to the children.
