The film describes the story of Vu Tien and his wife, Vu Thi Ngoc Oanh, who have cared for and taught hundreds of orphans over nearly 40 years.
From the perspective of a foreigner, the film ‘L’Orpheninat’ recorded the daily images at Vu Tien's Orphanage Centre, thereby helping the director express his thoughts on Vietnam’s life and culture.
French director Matthieu Haag
The 70-minute documentary ‘L’Orpheninat’ sent the message that disadvantaged children will strive to succeed. The film won awards at prestigious international film festivals, such as ‘Best Documentary Film Award’ at Martinique International Film Festival, and was highly appreciated at the Nyon International Film Festival - Visions du Re´el and the Olonnes Film Festival 2018 in France.
Speaking at the film screening, Counselor at the Vietnamese Embassy in France Nguyen Manh Thang congratulated director Matthieu Haag on introducing his documentary about Vietnam to the public in France, highly appreciating the film with its scenes of deep humanity which help French and international audiences understand more about the country and people of Vietnam.
Audience members at the film screening also had a chance to talk with director Matthieu Haag and the film crew.
