Vietnamese students win three first prizes at Int'l Olympiad of Russian language

Nhan Dan Online - All five members of the Vietnam team bagged prizes at the 13th International Olympiad of the Russian language for schoolchildren, with three first prizes.

The first prize winners were Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet from Le Hong Phong Gifted High School in Nam Dinh city, Nghiem Ba Tri from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School and Do Anh Tung from Nguyen Hue Gifted High School in Hanoi.

Second prizes went to Nguyen Phuong Trang from Phan Boi Chau High School in Nghe An province and Duong Hong Ngoc from Nguyen Hue Gifted High School in Hanoi.

Speaking at the award ceremony in Moscow on June 11, Nadezhda Ivanovna Smirnova, deputy head of the Centre for International Co-operation under the Pushkin State Institute of Russian Language said that "Vietnamese students are very good learners. The board of examiners could not believe that they are learning Russian in Vietnam, but not in Russia. Thanks to Vietnamese teachers for their good teaching".

The 13th International Olympiad of the Russian language took place from June 6-11 with the participation of 206 high school students from 29 countries around the world to commemorate International Russian Language Day and the 215th birthday of Russian writer, Alexander Pushkin.

Contest winners will be exempted from entrance exams to Russia's universities. The contest has been held by the Pushkin State Institute of Russian Language every four years since 1972 and is funded by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.
