Winners of national film festival awards announced

‘Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass’ by director Victor Vu was honoured with the top award in the best feature film category of the 19th Vietnam Film Festival.

The awards were presented at a ceremony held on December 5 at the Hoa Binh Theatre in Ho Chi Minh City.

With an outstanding script, stunning scenery and impressive acting performances from all actors and actresses, the film won the ‘Golden Lotus’ award.

The ‘Silver Lotus’ award this year went to ‘Nhung dua con cua lang’ (The Children of the Village’ by Nguyen Duc Viet and ‘Cuoc doi của Yen’ (Life of Yen) by Dinh Tuan Vu.

‘Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass’ won a resounding victory at this year’s festival, taking home numerous major awards including Best Director for feature film and Best Cameraman won by Victor Vu and Ka Linh, respectively.

It was also honoured with the audience’s choice award, along with the film ‘You are my grandmother’ screened at the programme ‘The panorama of Vietnamese cinema’.

The film entitled ‘Dat lanh’ (The Good Land) also earned the silver prize for the video films category.

In the three remaining categories, the Golden Lotus Award was presented to ‘Cau be co lau’ (Reed Wood Boy) for the best animated film, ‘Ban hoa tau Son Doong’ (The Son Doong Ensemble) for the best scientific film and ‘Dinh cao chien thang’ (Pinnacle of Victory) for the festival’s best documentary.

Phung Van Ha, Dao Thanh Tung, Nguyen Hoang Hung and Dang Thai Huyen were named the Best Directors in animated film, documentary, scientific film and video film categories. The Best Actors and Actresses awards were also given to Trung Anh and Do Thuy Hang (in the film ‘The Children of the Village’).

The organising board also presented other individual awards to the best actors and actresses for video film, the best cameraman, best musician, best sound mixing and best director of photography at the ceremony.

The 2015 Vietnam Film Festival featured 125 films including 20 feature films, six video films, six documentaries, 27 documentary videos, 10 scientific films and 23 animated films. Another 33 films and videos will be screened at the programme ‘The panorama of Vietnamese cinema’.
