The exhibition is a part of a series of events marking the 50th anniversary of Sai Gon - Gia Dinh officially being honoured with the name of President Ho Chi Minh (July 2, 1976 - July 2, 2026).
Over the past five decades, Ho Chi Minh City has continued to grow and develop, upholding its resilient revolutionary tradition while fostering solidarity, dynamism and innovation. The city has played a pivotal role in the nation's overall development and has consistently nurtured its long-standing tradition of compassion and humanity.
Featuring 185 valuable historical photographs displayed across key exhibition spaces, the exhibition portrays the courageous and resilient spirit of Sai Gon–Gia Dinh through major milestones in its history, from the uprisings led by Truong Dinh and Phan Cong Hon, to the Southern Uprising of 1940, the resistance movement in the South in 1945, and culminating in the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign and the Great Spring Victory of 1975, which led to the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country.
Alongside highlighting achievements in infrastructure and economic development, the exhibition also pays tribute to the compassion and dedication of countless individuals who have quietly contributed to the city's growth over the years.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Nguyen Manh Cuong, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, said that every photograph and historical document on display not only preserves important moments in history but also vividly retraces the city's journey of struggle, reconstruction and development across different periods.
He noted that this is the central message the exhibition seeks to convey: history exists not only to be remembered, but also to strengthen confidence, inspire aspirations and encourage everyone to join hands in building a city worthy of the honour of bearing the name of President Hồ Chí Minh.
"I believe the exhibition will serve as a meaningful cultural space that helps educate younger generations about our traditions, foster civic pride, inspire a spirit of dedication among people from all walks of life, and provide renewed spiritual motivation for the Party organisation, government and people of Ho Chi Minh City to continue promoting unity, innovation and creativity as they join the rest of the country in entering a new era of development," Nguyen Manh Cuong emphasised.
