In fact, the premise of the Russian October Revolution appeared since the beginning of 1917 when the February Bourgeois Democratic Revolution overthrew the tsarist autocracy. Following the revolution, there were two parallel administrations in Russia: the Bourgeois Provisional Government (dictatorship of the bourgeoisie), and the Soviet of Workers' and Soldiers' Deputies which was led by Petrograd Soviet (dictatorship of the proletariat). However, the February Revolution did not live up to the set expectations. After taking control of the government, the Provisional Government did not settle the previously promised issues such as land, jobs and food, while resolutely pursuing the imperial war to the last. Provisional Government openly suppressed mass struggle movements and imprisoned Bolshevik Party members, so V.I.Lenin was forced to operate activities in secret. On October 7, 1917, V.I. Actually, the Russian October Revolution took place in November and the February Revolution took place in March. This is because Russia used the Julian calendar, which was usually two weeks later than the current Gregorian calendar.

In 1918, Russia celebrated the anniversary of the October Revolution on November 7 according to the Gregorian calendar. A solemn massive military parade was held in front of Red Square in Moscow at that time.

In 1927, the Soviet Union issued a regulation of applying two public holidays on November 7-8 on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the October Revolution. On September 25, 1992, Russia amended the Labour Law and November 8 was no longer a holiday.

On November 7, 1996, Russian President Boris Yeltsin signed a decree, in which the anniversary of the Great October Revolution was renamed the Accord and Reconciliation Day. Since December 29, 2004, November 7 has become a normal working day.

In 2005, Russia designated November 7 as one of the memorable days in the history of the country, associated with the most important historical milestones for the state and society.
