The rites featured incense offerings, a procession, Nha Nhac (Hue royal court music) performances and royal dancing, attracting the participation of an estimated 600 artists, instrumentalists, actors, actresses and local residents.
The Xa Tac esplanade was built in Thuan Hoa ward in 1806 under the reign of King Gia Long to worship the Genies of Xa (Earth) and Tac (Crop). The Xa Tac ritual was conducted every second lunar month to honour the country’s agriculture and pray for favourable weather, bumper crops, prosperity, peace and happiness.
The rite was first resurrected in 2008 during the Hue Festival 2008 by the Hue Imperial Relics Preservation Centre.
