The Viet Nam Circus Federation, formerly the Central People’s Circus Troupe, was established on January 16, 1956. The late People’s Artist Ta Duy Hien laid the foundation for Vietnamese circus. On August 15, 1978, the Central People’s Circus Troupe officially changed its name to the Viet Nam Circus Federation.
Speaking at the anniversary celebration, People’s Artist Tong Toan Thang, Director of the Viet Nam Circus Federation, affirmed: With a strong passion for art in a country still facing many difficulties, thanks to the efforts, the Viet Nam Circus Federation has gradually matured, overcoming many challenges to become the leading flag of the Vietnamese circus industry.
With the attention of the Party, the state, and the guidance of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, generations of leaders, artists, officials, and workers of the federation over the past 70 years have been creating continuously, contributing to building a Vietnamese circus art that is humane, modern, and rich in identity, with many performances and artistic products that have left a lasting impression on the public.
He affirmed that entering a new phase of development, the Viet Nam Circus Federation aims to strongly innovate creative thinking, apply advanced performance technology, create large-scale circus works with Vietnamese cultural identity; and, at the same time, expand international cooperation, bring Vietnamese circus art closer to the world, train, nurture, and care for the lives of artists, attract young people to continue the tradition, build a professional performance environment, and aim for sustainable development.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung emphasised that over its 70 years of construction and development, the Viet Nam Circus Federation, as well as the Vietnamese circus industry in general, has affirmed its position, not only preserving traditional identity but also integrating deeply with the international community. The prestigious awards bestowed upon the Viet Nam Circus Federation by the Party and state are not only well-deserved recognition but also a source of encouragement for the industry to continue striving in the new phase.
The minister expressed his hope that the Viet Nam Circus Federation will continue to play a core role in training specialised artistic human resources, making positive contributions to the industrialisation process of the culture; and that the federation’s leadership and the collective of artists will strengthen unity, strive to fulfil assigned tasks well, and contribute to the effective implementation of the Party’s major policies on cultural and artistic development in the new era.
At the ceremony, the Viet Nam Circus Federation was honoured to receive the First-Class Labour Medal from the President; People’s Artist Tong Toan Thang was awarded the Third-Class Labour Medal.
In addition, 4 collectives and 18 individuals of the federation also received commendations from Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung. Meanwhile, Meritorious Artist Nguyen Van Tra, former Deputy Director of the Viet Nam Circus Federation, was awarded the Friendship Order by the Lao Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
