Standing side by side with the people
In recent years, Dong Nai Province has implemented various important tasks to strengthen the working class during the period of industrialisation and modernisation, focusing on improving workers’ livelihoods, building the trade union organisation, and renewing the structure and operations of trade unions. As a result, the working class and trade union organisations have continuously grown in both quantity and quality, deserving their role as the vanguard force in the province’s industrialisation and modernisation process.
To date, the province has 2,298 grassroots trade unions, attracting over 720,530 members out of 732,615 employees (among more than 1.4 million workers employed across organisations and enterprises in the province), achieving a gathering rate of over 98%.
According to Nguyen Duc Thang, Vice Chairman of the Dong Nai Federation of Labour, trade unions have effectively fulfilled their representative role in caring for and protecting the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of workers, achieving many remarkable results. Between 2020–2025, trade unions at all levels supported the construction and repair of more than 320 “Trade Union Shelter” houses for disadvantaged members with a total budget exceeding 20 billion VND.
The Welfare Programme for Trade Union Members has been implemented with nearly 15 cooperation agreements, offering members discounts of 5–30% on essential goods and services, benefiting over 350,000 members.
Each year, the Standing Committee of the Dong Nai Federation of Labour directs grassroots unions in enterprises to proactively coordinate with employers to ensure proper implementation of grassroots democracy.
As a result, every year, 800–1,000 workplace dialogues (including periodic and case-specific meetings) are held, addressing tens of thousands of issues related to wages, bonuses, meal quality, working conditions, and rest time. These efforts have improved workers’ welfare and safeguarded their rights.
According to Thang, to help maintain order and security in enterprises and localities, trade unions at all levels have participated in resolving 79 labour disputes and collective work stoppages (mainly concerning employee benefits). The conciliation success rate reached 100%.
Over 81.9% of grassroots trade unions in enterprises have signed collective labour agreements with clauses more favourable to employees than those stipulated by law — such as overtime meal allowances of 20,000–25,000 VND per person per day, additional paid leave, attendance bonuses, support for pregnant and nursing female workers, annual tours, and sick leave assistance.
More than 800,000 workers have received free legal advice and support through the Trade Union Legal Consulting Centre.
Workers assured in their labour and creativity
Thanks to the close care of the trade union system, the living and working conditions, salaries, insurance, and welfare policies for trade union members and workers have seen significant positive changes.
A key highlight is the consistent focus on protecting and representing workers’ legitimate rights and interests. The trade unions have also actively contributed to developing labour-related policies and laws. Many Party and State policies on building the working class and trade unions have been concretised and effectively implemented.
Consequently, workers have actively engaged in the “Good and Creative Labour” movement. Over the years, trade union members in Dong Nai have proposed more than 45,000 innovations and technical improvements, generating economic benefits of over 1.5 trillion VND for enterprises and society.
The “Green–Clean–Beautiful, Safe and Hygienic Workplace” movement has been widely implemented, attracting 70–80% of direct production workers. These campaigns have helped improve the working environment and reduce workplace accidents. Many individuals have been recommended for commendation by the Viet Nam General Confederation of Labour and the People’s Committee of Dong Nai Province.
The grassroots trade union of Chang Shin Viet Nam Co., Ltd. (Tan Trieu Ward, Dong Nai Province), established in 1996, has effectively represented and protected the legitimate rights and interests of workers, building a harmonious, stable, and progressive labour relationship within the enterprise. The company has over 40,000 employees, of whom 80% are female, and 99.99% are trade union members.
Do Trong Nguyen, an IT network manager and trade union member at Chang Shin Viet Nam Co., Ltd., shared that the company’s union has carried out many meaningful activities to support members and workers through programmes such as “Compassionate Arms”, which raised nearly 12 billion VND to assist 235 workers with serious illnesses, each receiving at least 50 million VND. Other initiatives, such as the Chang Shin Family Mutual Support Fund and the Trade Union Shelter Programme, have also earned both individual and collective commendations from Dong Nai Province.
Speaking at the First Patriotic Emulation Congress, Ton Ngoc Hanh, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairwoman of the People’s Council of Dong Nai Province, emphasised that the province’s outstanding achievements in recent years have been significantly contributed to by patriotic emulation movements featuring many creative, effective, and exemplary models.
In particular, movements such as “Good and Creative Labour” among workers and employees, “Good Teaching and Good Learning” in education, “Determined to Win” and “For National Security” among armed forces, as well as “Day for the Poor – Leaving No One Behind”, have spread positive messages across society, fostering good values and confidence in a happy, modern, and civilised life.
In production and labour, numerous exemplary individuals and collectives have emerged, along with practical innovations, initiatives, and solutions that have benefited both the State and society. Many models and practices have been widely replicated, spreading their positive influence across the entire province and the nation.
