SAR27-01 rescue ship under the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) - Region 4 carried out the rescue mission immediately after receiving the information on the incident.

Nguyen Xuan Binh, Director of the MRCC - Region 4, said that, at 7 am this morning, the centre received information from the Seabourn Ovation ship (Bahaman nationality), which was roughly 78 nautical miles north of Nha Trang, as there was a passenger on board suffering from acute bowel obstruction, who was US citizen, Haddock Richard Ray, born in 1941.

According to the medical team on the ship, the passenger showed signs of peritonitis, abdominal distention, paralysis and vomiting continuously that threatened his life. The centre contacted the ship directly to update the patient's status and instructed the onsite staff to ensure the safety for the passenger.

Due to the deterioration of the passengers' health, which can lead to death, the centre sent SAR27-01 rescue vessel, which was docked at Nha Trang port, to head to the distressed ship.

As of noon January 28, SAR27-01 took the ill passenger safely to shore. Later, he was taken to a hospital in Nha Trang city for further treatment.
