Although the artists use different styles of abstraction and realism in their works, they share the common aspiration to preserve and develop lacquer, the traditional material of Vietnam painters.

Notably, three paintings by late artist Nguyen Kim Dong (1922-2009), the first head of the VUFA Lacquer Faculty are also on display to show the gratitude of his students towards their beloved lecturer.

According to Pham Chinh Trung, a lecturer at the VFAU, the exhibition is the first of its kind to gather former lacquer students of the university.

He also said that he is glad that the university graduates, who were once his students and are now his colleagues, still hold a passion for the lacquer material, which requires much qualification, skill and industriousness.

‘We came up with the idea of hosting the exhibition at the beginning of this year to mark the process of training and developing lacquer among Vietnam artists, from their time at the university to their work as an artist,” said Ha Huy Muoi, an event participant.

The exhibition runs until July 9 at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, 66 Nguyen Thai Hoc street in Hanoi.
