ASEAN Para Games 12: Vietnam among top three in medal ranking

As of 8:30 pm on July 8, the Vietnamese delegation pocketed 66 gold, 56 silver, and 77 bronze medals, ranking third in the medal tally after Indonesia and Thailand at the 12th ASEAN Para Games in Cambodia.

Although there is one more official competition day on June 9 at ASEAN Para Games 12, Vietnam is certain of the third place in the medal tally because it has left fourth-placed Malaysia far behind. Malaysia had won 46 gold, 38 silver and 29 bronze.

On June 8, swimmer Trinh Thi Bich Nhu bagged one more gold medal, one silver and one bronze, becoming the most successful Vietnamese female athlete at ASEAN Para Games 12 with a total five gold, one silver and one bronze medals.

Vietnamese swimmers won 28 gold medals and 21 silver and 32 bronze in all at the event.

Meanwhile, track-and-field athletes brought home 20 gold medals, 19 silver and 20 bronze, far exceeding the set goal of 13 gold medals for the 31-member team.

Weightlifters completed their competition at the event with 10 gold medals, while the chess team bagged a total of 8 gold medals, 11 silver, and 9 bronze.

The Vietnamese sports delegation to the event consists of 164 members, including 122 athletes, who are competing in eight out of the 13 sports at the tournament, namely track-and-field, swimming, weightlifting, badminton, table tennis, chess, judo, and boccia.

The delegation excellently completed both targets of wining 50-55 gold medals and to be among the top four at the event .
