The Vietnamese Paralympic contingent produced a poor start to their Tokyo 2020 campaign as para-swimmers Trinh Thi Bich Nhu and Vo Thanh Tung could not qualify for the final stage of their first two events at the Games.
Specifically, Bich Nhu finished last in the women’s 50m freestyle S6 Heat 2 with a time of 39.14 seconds, 5.63 seconds behind heat leader Yelyzaveta Mereshko (Ukraine), who ranked second in the Heats round.

Thanh Tung suffered a similar fate in the men’s 200m freestyle S5 Heat 2 clocking a time of 3 minutes, 14.11 seconds.

Tung will have the chance to redeem himself in the coming days as he is going to feature in the 100m freestyle S5 (Aug. 26), 50m butterfly S5 (Aug. 27), 50m backstroke S5 (Aug. 30), and 50m freestyle S5 (Sep. 1).
Meanwhile, Bich Nhu will continue her Paralympic medal hunt in the 200m medley SM6 tomorrow (Aug. 26), 100m breaststroke SB5 (Aug. 28) and 50m butterfly S6 (Aug. 30).
