Ca Mau launches major projects marking 80th National Day

Three major projects have been launched in Ca Mau Province to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution (August 19) and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam (September 2). They include the Ca Mau–Dat Mui Expressway, the upgrade of Ca Mau Airport, and a social housing project worth over 1 trillion VND.

The Ca Mau–Dat Mui Expressway runs largely through mangrove forests, with minimal impact on homes and farmland in rural areas.

On August 17, Le Van Ngoi, Chief of the Office of the Ca Mau Provincial People’s Committee, announced that, under a plan recently issued by the committee, several large-scale projects will be launched or inaugurated on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the success of the August Revolution and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam.

According to the plan, Ca Mau will begin construction on three major projects on August 19: the Ca Mau–Dat Mui Expressway, the road connecting Dat Mui to Hon Khoai Port and Hon Khoai Island, and the expansion and upgrade of Ca Mau Airport.

Materials are gathered in preparation for the groundbreaking of the Ca Mau–Dat Mui Expressway and the road linking Dat Mui to Hon Khoai Port.

Initial information shows that the Ca Mau–Dat Mui Expressway will span more than 80 kilometres with four lanes. Running parallel to National Highway 1A and the Ho Chi Minh Trail, it will serve as the final link in the North–South Expressway (eastern route) stretching from Pac Bo (Cao Bang Province) to Cape Ca Mau. Once completed, the expressway will open new development space, enhance transport capacity, drive socio-economic growth, and strengthen national security and defence at the southernmost point of the country.

Meanwhile, Hon Khoai Port and the connecting road from Dat Mui to Hon Khoai Island are planned to become an international trade gateway, supporting the transformation of the “southernmost mainland region” into a strategic marine economic hub of Viet Nam.

As for the Ca Mau Airport upgrade project, under the 2021–2030 master plan, the airport will be upgraded to 4C standards, with a capacity of one million passengers and 1,000 tonnes of cargo annually. It will be capable of handling Code C aircraft such as Airbus A320, A321, or equivalents. The project, spanning more than 100 hectares, has received a total investment of around 2.4 trillion VND with legal capital sources from the Airports Corporation of Viet Nam (ACV).

In addition to these projects, to mark the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, Ca Mau will also break ground on a social housing project in the new urban area of An Xuyen Ward. At the same time, two major projects will be inaugurated: the Bac Lieu Sports Complex, and the upgraded and expanded section of the Ca Mau–Dam Doi Road from Hai Thuong Lan Ong Street to Xom Ruong Bridge.

According to Pham Thanh Ngai, Chairman of the Ca Mau Provincial People’s Committee, together with the rest of the country, the groundbreaking of these key projects on August 19 represents an important political event. It marks a new turning point for the province, opening development opportunities in the marine economy, logistics services, tourism, and international trade, while firmly strengthening national security and defence in Viet Nam’s sacred maritime and island areas.

Given the importance of these projects, the provincial leader asked the relevant agencies to select appropriate venues for the groundbreaking ceremonies, ensuring safety, security, and solemnity. The events are expected to generate a strong spirit of enthusiasm and solidarity across the political system and among the people, in line with the prime minister’s directive, as a meaningful tribute to the 80th anniversary of the success of August Revolution and National Day.
