Da Nang impressed the jury board with its comprehensive solutions and approach to the mitigation of and adaption to climate change, as well as its contributions to deliver the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change.
Accordingly, Da Nang is committed to cutting its carbon emissions by 2030 by 25% as compared to its 2016 emissions.
The city authorities have implemented a number of initiatives focusing on developing clean energy and green transport, and enhancing its wastewater treatment system.
Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, Vice Chairman of Da Nang city People’s Committee, said that the city authorities and people are happy as their efforts were appreciated by the international community.
Although there is a long and challenging way ahead, Da Nang has pledged drastic action for a green, sustainable and prosperous life for its dwellers, contributing to the global commitment to climate change adaption, he stressed.
The One Planet City Challenge invites cities in participating countries to report ambitious and innovative climate actions for a environmentally- friendly planet in the future.
In the 2017-2018 round, 132 cities in 23 countries participated in the One Planet City Challenge, which has a thematic focus on sustainable transport and mobility as a major challenge facing cities everywhere.
