According to the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC), which operates the expressway, a total of 25 ETC lanes have been installed at the three toll stations of Long Phuoc, National Highway 51 and Dau Giay.

VEC Deputy Director Nguyen Van Nhi said the automated system will significantly reduce congestion at the toll gates by cutting the time for vehicles to pass through to about 6-12 seconds

The 55-kilometre-long Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway has seen daily traffic of around 55,000 vehicles in recent months, making it one of the busiest expressways in Vietnam.

VEC will hand out paper tickets to vehicles without electronic tags from now until August 1, after which point they will be fined if entering the expressway without ETC tags.

Fully automated toll collection is expected to be rolled out to all expressways in Vietnam starting from August.
