Exhibition features German winner of “Bui Xuan Phai - For Love of Hanoi” Award

German photographer Thomas Billhardt, a winner of the "Bui Xuan Phai - For the Love of Hanoi" Award, will introduce his photos at an exhibition at the Goethe Institute in Hanoi on March 12.

The exhibition will feature his most important international photographic works, including those from his latest publication entitled “Vietnam from 1967 to 2020”.

Billhardt is a talented German photographer. He is a freelance photojournalist who is famous for his publications in many magazines and his exhibitions around the world.

Thomas Billhardt has travelled to 49 countries and his photos have been published worldwide. He captured the images on the wards and their consequences as well as the crisis areas around the world.

He is well-known for his photos on the wars in Vietnam during the time between 1960 and 1970, especially his images of children in the wars.

Many international exhibitions have honoured the efforts of Thomas Billhardt. His photos have been exhibited in London, Moscow, Beirut, Hanoi, Florence, Paris and many other cities as contemporary examples and are an important part of German photographic history.

At the exhibition in Hanoi, Thomas Billhardt will also present his photo collection at the Goethe Institute. Thomas Billhardt has a special love for Vietnam and Hanoi. He has visited Vietnam about 12 times. His photos about the war in Vietnam in the late 1960s helped him become famous around the world. He was the first to capture the horror on children’s faces during the war.

An exhibition titled “Hanoi 1967-1975” took place at the Goethe Institute in Hanoi in 2020. With the exhibition and a book by the same name, Thomas Billhardt was honoured with the “Bui Xuan Phai – For Love of Hanoi” Award.
