The festival will be the first of its kind to be held to promote potential and strength, cultural characteristics and products of ethnic minority groups in Quang Ninh including camellia chrysantha - a precious medicinal plant of high value growing in Ba Che.
Camellia chrysantha is a species of plant in the Theaceae family which was found growing naturally in forests in Ba Che a long time ago but its real values were only discovered in recent years.
The compound found in camellia chrysantha has the ability to curb the growth of tumors up to 33.8% and helps reduce up to 35% of cholesterol in the blood.
The plant is also able to relieve the symptoms of atherosclerosis caused by blood fats, control blood pressure and treat cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and tumors among others.
Local residents in Ba Che often sell this plant at VND15 million (US$660) per kg of dried camellia chrysantha buds and flowers. Ba Che district is now growing around 100ha of camellia chrysantha and the area is expected to grow 500ha by 2020.
