The first Congress of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee for the 2025–2030 term, was honoured to receive a congratulatory flower basket from Party General Secretary To Lam.
Attending and directing the Congress was Nguyen Trong Nghia, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee (PCC), Head of the PCC Commission for Communications, Education and Mass Mobilisation.
Delivering the opening speech, Le Quoc Phong, member of the PCC, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, and Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Dong Thap Province, emphasised that during two working days, the Congress would conduct a comprehensive review and assessment of the implementation of the Resolution of the previous Congress, and evaluate the leadership and management of the Provincial Party Committee’s Executive Committee for the 2020–2025 term, and discuss and vote to approve the goals and tasks for the 2025–2030 term.
Reviewing the previous term, Le Quoc Phong noted that the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee and, earlier, Tien Giang Province, had focused on leadership, exceeding many of the targets set by the Resolution. The scale and pace of economic growth reached positive levels; the economic structure shifted in the right direction; and investment was given to socio-economic infrastructure and facilities.
The new rural development programme achieved practical results; education, science and technology, culture, sports, and public healthcare all saw positive changes; social security was ensured; the material and spiritual life of the people improved continuously; national defence and security were maintained; social order and safety were ensured; and external relations and international integration were expanded. Party building was given special attention, with comprehensive, strict, and effective implementation in both building and rectifying the Party.
According to Secretary of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee Le Quoc Phong, the first Congress of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee, 2025–2030 term, is being held under the theme: Building a pure and strong Party Committee and political system; promoting innovation; accelerating industrial development; building a modern ecological agriculture; improving the quality of people’s lives; and firmly ensuring national defence and security.
During the 2020–2025 term, the Resolution of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee’s Congress set out 23 major targets across various fields. As a result, 17 out of 23 targets were achieved or exceeded, particularly those related to the environment, culture, society, and Party building.
Accordingly, Dong Thap’s economic growth averaged 5.51% annually over five years, with per capita GRDP estimated at around 85.5 million VND. State budget revenue increased by an average of 2.25% per year.
By the end of 2025, the share of agriculture–forestry–fisheries is projected at around 34.8%, industry–construction to be around 25.1%, and trade–services to be around 34.5%.
During the past term, the province focused on implementing six key breakthroughs: developing the agricultural economy, investing in key products and growth regions; enterprise development and start-ups; infrastructure development; human resources development; administrative reform; and Party building.
For the 2025–2030 term, Dong Thap Province has set 14 targets, including achieving an average economic growth rate of 9.0% per year over the five years, reaching 10% or more by the end of the term; mobilising investment capital for total social development equal to 33% of the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP); increasing state budget revenue in the province by an average of 10% annually; and raising per capita income to 115–120 million VND by 2030.
In addition, Dong Thap aims by 2030 to have 100% of schools meeting national standards; at least 82.5% of its workforce trained; no poor households; at least 32 hospital beds per ten thousand people and 11 doctors per 10,000 people; and to meet the criteria of an advanced new rural province.
