Tao Van Giot, Secretary of the Muong Than Commune Party Committee, said that, in response to the landslide threat in Noong Thang Village, Lai Chau Province had instructed the relevant authorities to mobilise and relocate local residents to safer areas.
Following several days of prolonged heavy rainfall, inspections revealed that steep mountain peaks rise above Noong Thang Village, with three water channels descending from the mountaintops into the village. The landslide scar is located halfway up the slope, posing an extremely high risk of further landslides.
Tong Van Pua, Head of the Village Fatherland Front Working Committee of Noong Thang Village, said that from 4:00 p.m. on July 18, military personnel, police officers, local authorities and other forces had mobilised and assisted residents in relocating both people and property to safe locations. If the rain continues over the coming days, the risk of flash floods and torrential floods will be extremely high.
At present, Lai Chau province is reinforcing its manpower, resources and equipment to deal with the aftermath of the natural disaster in Muong Than Commune. Military forces, police officers, militia and self-defence forces are working tirelessly on rescue and relief operations, addressing the consequences of the flooding and helping local residents restore their lives as quickly as possible.
