The commune pays special attention to preserving, promoting and spreading cultural values, along with the tradition of learning, thereby evoking pride and inspiring generations to join hands in building a civilised and modernised homeland.

Covering an area of over 24 square kilometres, Mao Dien Commune has a population of 48,000 across 23 villages. Mao Dien has met the standards of an exemplary new rural area, as part of it, the former Cam Dong Commune, was recognised as an exemplary new rural commune in education, while another part, former Tan Truong Commune, was recognised as an exemplary new rural commune in culture. This is clear evidence for the whole community’s determination and consensus in fulfilling the goal of comprehensive rural development.

Mao Dien Commune Chairman Tran Xuan Kieu said that following the merger, the commune added new criteria and formulated a specific roadmap to maintain and improve their quality, striving to become a fifth-tier urban area by 2030.

In agriculture, the commune focuses on restructuring towards sustainability and value enhancement. Agricultural cooperatives continue to play an important role in providing services and transferring advanced technologies to local farmers. With 258 hectares of rice paddy, farmers have actively employed science and technology to plant high-yield and high-quality rice varieties.

Farmers also plant vegetables in accordance with good agricultural practices and employ automatic irrigation systems, as well as temperature, lighting and humidity control systems. The production value per one hectare of land in 2024 reached 178.3 million VND (6,800 USD).

Animal husbandry is shifting towards semi-industrial models. The whole commune has 15 animal farms, with production value rising from 16.3 billion VND (621,000 USD) in 2020 to 28.7 billion VND (1.1 million USD) in 2025. Aquafarming remains a key strength of the commune with a total farming area of 635 hectares, generating a revenue of 270 million VND (10,300 USD) per hectare a year.

The commune is also equipped with smart security cameras and automatic lighting systems along main streets, providing many benefits for the people.

Mao Dien Commune is home to the Mao Dien Temple of Literature, a special national site, as well as 11 provincial-level historical and cultural sites, 28 Buddhist temples, and many singing, dancing and sports clubs.

According to Mao Dien Commune Party Secretary Doan Dinh Tuyen, Mao Dien – the name of the new administrative unit under the two-tier local government model – reflects respect for history and honours the region’s cultural heritage and tradition of learning.

The Mao Dien Temple of Literature is one of the large Confucian temples with important historical and cultural values in the Red River Delta. This temple honours the tradition of learning in the region east of the capital, the hailing place of many famous Confucian scholars such as Nguyen Binh Khiem, Mac Dinh Chi, Chu Van An and Le Quy Don. The steles here record the names of 637 distinguished scholars of the former Hai Duong Prefecture during imperial dynasties.

The Mao Dien Temple of Literature was listed as a national site in 1992 and special national site in 2017. It serves to educate people about the tradition of learning, where a cultural festival was held every spring.

The development of cultural, spiritual, historical and educational tourism at the Mao Dien Temple of Literature will increasingly attract domestic and foreign tourists. This affirms the commitment of the local government and residents to protecting and promoting Hai Phong’s traditional, historical and cultural values.

As the nation enters a new era, with the joint efforts of all officials, Party members and people, Mao Dien Commune is determined to build a homeland of comprehensive and sustainable development, becoming a bright spot in Hai Phong’s development journey.
