The fare exemption applies to 106 municipal-funded bus routes and the Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro line.

The policy aims to encourage the use of public transport and reduce reliance on private vehicles, thereby helping to protect the environment and promote a green transition in transport.

Phuong Trang, a private bus operator, will also provide free services on several routes operated by the company.

On the Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro line, passengers will be able to ride free of charge by scanning their identity cards, using QR codes on the HCMC Metro HURC app, or collecting paper tickets from automatic vending machines.

On December 31, the city will operate 264 metro train journeys, an increase of 21 compared to normal days. On January 1, there will be 276 journeys, including 20 serving passengers in the early hours immediately after the fireworks display.
