The artists will bring to the stage 34 ‘cai luong’ (reformed opera) performances to vie for gold and silver medals for best plays, best directors, and best female and male artists.

The event is organised every three years by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in co-operation with the Can Tho City People’s Committee.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the festival, Ho An Phong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, affirmed that the festival aims to honour the values of ‘Cai Luong’ — a traditional art form originating from the South over 100 years ago — as well as those with positive contributions to the development of the art form.

The festival also provides an opportunity for Cai Luong artists and singers to exchange and gain experience from each other, thus perfecting their performing skills.
