A delegation of the National Election Committee (NEC) led by National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Thanh inspected preparations for the elections of deputies to the 16th legislature and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term in the southern province of Tay Ninh on February 6.

In her concluding remarks at the working session, NA Vice Chairwoman Thanh applauded the local authorities for the work, saying that election preparations in Tay Ninh have met both schedule and quality requirements. She also acknowledged the locality’s proposals and recommendations.

Noting that the election is a key political event following the 14th National Party Congress and taking place under new circumstances, Thanh urged the local authorities to treat the election work as a core task and top priority.

With the preparation period shortened by more than two months compared to previous terms, and several stages falling during the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday, she called on the province to maintain high focus to ensure progress and quality.

The NA Vice Chairwoman requested Tay Ninh authorities to effectively organise the third round of consultation, and to carefully prepare and publicise the list of voters, with due attention to border-area voters and temporary residents. She also called for stepped-up communications, including full disclosure of candidates’ profiles and action programmes through mass media to ensure voters are well informed.

Thanh underscored the importance of reinforcing grassroots training and guidance in the context of the two-tier local administration model operation, proactively preparing response scenarios, and ensuring sufficient digital infrastructure, facilities, funding and personnel.

At the same time, she called for stronger inspection and supervision, with prompt handling of emerging issues, to ensure the election selects deputies of integrity and competence who meet the requirements of the new development stage.

Nguyen Hong Thanh, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee and Vice Chairman of the Election Committee of Tay Ninh, reported that the direction, management and coordination of election preparations have been carried out in a serious manner, ensuring the set schedule.

Accordingly, the solicitation of voter feedbacks at candidates’ places of residence, the compilation and public posting of voter lists, meetings with voters and election campaigning, as well as consultative conferences have all been well prepared and conducted in accordance with regulations. Communications, security and safety have been ensured, with no complaints or complex issues reported.

Tay Ninh has five constituencies for the election to the 16th NA, with 15 seats to be filled; 27 constituencies for the provincial People’s Council, electing 81 deputies; and 634 commune-level constituencies, with 2,059 seats for People’s Councils at the grassroots level.

To date, the province has completed the first and second onsultative conferences, agreeing on a preliminary list of 20 candidates for the 16th legislature, 139 others for the provincial People’s Council for the 2026–2031 term, and nearly 4,000 candidates for commune-level People’s Councils. The consultation process has been carried out strictly in line with prescribed procedures, ensuring an appropriate structure and composition in accordance with regulations and practical requirements of the locality.

Nguyen Hung Thai, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, said the locality has reviewed potential election-related scenarios and tasked specialised agencies with preparing response plans, particularly for information systems, while ensuring voter lists are compiled in a scientific and logical manner.
