National Conference on Nuclear Science and Technology opens

The Viet Nam Atomic Energy Institute (Vinatom) held the 16th National Conference on Nuclear Science and Technology (VINANST-16) 2025, on October 8 in Da Nang City.

VINANST is organised every two years.
VINANST is organised every two years.

Over the past 40 years, Viet Nam’s atomic energy sector has made significant progress—from basic research and applications in medicine, agriculture, and industry to radiation safety, environmental monitoring, human resource training, and gradual access to advanced nuclear technologies worldwide.

These contributions have played an important role in national socio-economic development, protecting public health, and ensuring the country’s energy security.

The conference takes place at a time when Viet Nam has decided to resume its nuclear power development programme and has issued several key policies and legal documents to promote the growth of atomic energy in various sectors of socio-economic life.

Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Le Xuan Dinh stated that this year’s conference also aims to strengthen international cooperation. It serves as an important occasion for scientists, regulators, and organisations both at home and abroad to exchange research outcomes, initiatives, and solutions to put the Party General Secretary’s guidance on atomic energy development into practice.

At the conference, participants presented more than 200 scientific reports covering a wide range of topics—from basic research and technological development to practical applications and safety management.

The plenary session focused on advanced nuclear technologies, providing an overview of development achievements and contributions from countries with established nuclear technology sectors.

In addition, reports discussed key projects such as the Centre for Nuclear Science and Technology Research (CNST), the Small Modular Reactor (SMR) initiative, the application of electron beam technology, and the development of particle accelerators for irradiation purposes. Delegates also reviewed plans for human resource development and measures to enhance Vinatom’s technical support capacity.

Through the discussions, Vietnamese and international scientists exchanged insights and shared experiences, while proposing new directions aligned with the country’s development needs.

The conference will run until October 10.
