Nationwide Tet initiatives bring support to vulnerable communities ahead of Lunar New Year

A series of community-focused programmes have been rolled out across Viet Nam ahead of the Lunar New Year 2026, delivering practical support to disadvantaged groups and highlighting the country’s strong tradition of solidarity and compassion.

In Can Tho, the 2026 Tet Quan Dan (Military–Civilian Tet) programme officially opened at Cai Rang floating market on January 30. Activities include scholarships and bicycles for disadvantaged students, gifts for poor and policy households, free medical check-ups, house construction and repairs, rural infrastructure upgrades and lighting installation.

Cultural highlights feature traditional cake-making contests, Tet food displays, flower arranging, floating market gift-giving and an OCOP product fair. The programme runs until February 1.

In Da Nang, the city’s Red Cross, in coordination with PVFCCo–Phu My, distributed 300 Tet gift packages worth a total of 150 million VND to poor households and families affected by natural disasters. The initiative forms part of a national campaign delivering more than 16,000 gifts across 23 localities.

In Quang Ngai, the central-level Tet Nhan Ai (Tet of Compassion) programme provided 1,000 gift packages to poor and near-poor households hit by floods, while the province aims to mobilise support for over 43,200 vulnerable people during the Tet season.

Nghe An recorded strong community engagement through the Nghia Tinh Dong Lam programme, which raised more than 172 billion VND from 400 organisations and individuals. Over 13 years, similar initiatives have mobilised more than 1 trillion VND to support disadvantaged residents, especially following severe storm damage in 2025.

In Quang Tri, the Noi Vong Tay Nhan Ai programme raised over 56.2 billion VND to assist more than 34,500 households, continuing a 21-year tradition of Tet support for the poor.

In addition, Nhan Dan Newspaper and its partners donated funds to schools in Nghe An damaged by storms, supporting facility repairs and students in hardship.
