Quang Tri Border Guard presents gifts to border residents

The Thanh Border Guard Station and the authorities of Lia Commune in the central province of Quang Tri jointly held a spring celebration programme for local residents on January 23.

At the event, the organisers presented 250 gift packages, including cash and essential goods, to residents of Lia Commune, along with nine scholarships to schoolchildren as part of a programme to support poor children in border areas.

Earlier, the unit had also presented 150 gifts to disadvantaged students of the A Tuc Primary and Secondary School.

The border guard station also provided free medical check-ups and medicines to over 120 residents and wrapped and cooked banh chung, a Lunar New Year speciality, to present to poor households.

According to Major Nguyen Van Chinh, political commissar of the Thanh Border Guard Station, the programme has further spread the spirit of solidarity between the military and people, helping to strengthen the protection of national sovereignty and security in border areas.
