A highlight of December is a series of activities showcasing the cultural colours of the Co Tu community from Da Nang, taking place at the Communal House.
The December programme includes the re-enactment of the brotherhood oath ceremony (Pro ngooch) by the Co Tu community from Da Nang; a cultural and artistic exchange titled “Echoes of the Highlands”; the introduction of Co Tu traditional cuisine; and experiences in the traditional cultural space of the Co Tu people.
The programme’s signature highlight for New Year 2026 is the re-creation of the cultural space “Highland Market Fair – New Year 2026 Greetings”, featuring demonstrations of traditional handicrafts by highland ethnic communities; the folk song and dance programme; the re-enactment of the Crop-Blessing Ceremony of the Kho Mu ethnic group in Huoi Mot Commune, Son La Province; and the introduction and hands-on experience of five-colour sticky rice by Northern ethnic communities.
The highland market fair is among the most popular activities for visitors at the village. This year’s fair re-creates a vibrant upland cultural space where highland ethnic groups gather joyfully to meet, reflect on the past year, and welcome New Year 2026 with excitement at the Communal House.
The market fair will feature approximately 40 booths displaying local produce, traditional cuisine, and beverage stalls serving visitors. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience traditional northern ethnic culinary practices, such as coloured steamed rice and highland-style rolled cakes, guided by culinary artisans.
In addition, there is an exhibition area for paintings, showcasing the beauty of the highlands and its people from the painting collection that is being archived and promoted at the Viet Nam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism.
On the weekends, visitors can experience activities introducing folk games, traditional handicrafts, distinctive ethnic cuisines, and cultural exchanges of folk singing and folk dancing with Northern ethnic communities and Central Highlands groups living at the village, enhancing the festive atmosphere.
