Nguyen Thi Tru receives certificate of longest living woman

Nguyen Thi Tru, 122 years old, living in Da Phuoc commune, Binh Chanh district, Ho Chi Minh City was granted the Certificate of World Record as the 'longest living woman' by the World Record Association, the Vietnam Record Organisation (Vietkings) announced on May 13.

The certificate was given to Tru one month ahead of schedule as her health is beginning to deteriorate.

Tru was born on May 4, 1893 in Ho Chi Minh City. She is the mother of eight daughters and three sons, her first-born child died at the age of 91 and the youngest child aged 82 is currently living with her.

Earlier on April 20, the Hong Kong-based World Record Association officially recognised Nguyen Thi Tru as the oldest woman in the world. Tru was also recorded as the oldest woman in Vietnam and Asia by Vietkings and the Asia Record Association in August 2014.

Vietkings has also sent Tru's file to the Guinness World Records and India-based World Records Union to seek their recognition.
