Noi Bai optimises infrastructure, applies technology and increases staffing for National Day holiday

This year’s National Day holiday will last five days (from August 29 to September 2), and a large number of passengers are expected to travel through Noi Bai International Airport, with passenger traffic at the airport expected to surge at certain times.

The airport has synchronously implemented a range of operational measures, from optimising infrastructure and increasing staffing to applying technology, with the aim of providing passengers with safe, smooth and efficient flights.

According to forecasts, August 28, 2026 will be the busiest day of this year’s holiday period. The airport estimates that it will serve more than 125,000 passengers, up 8% from normal levels and 33% year on year. At the same time, the number of take-offs and landings is expected to reach 743 flights, up 10% from normal levels and 18% year on year.

Notably, an important highlight of this peak period is that the Civil Aviation Authority of Viet Nam has decided to increase the slot coordination parameter (number of take-offs/landings) at Noi Bai from 42 slots per hour to 44 slots per hour during the period from 6:00am to 11:55pm. This increase in the operating ceiling will give airlines greater room to add flights, ease pressure and meet passengers’ travel demand to the fullest extent.

To ensure smooth traffic flows, Noi Bai International Airport is closely coordinating with the Airport Immigration Police to scientifically regulate vehicle flows approaching the terminals, flexibly adjusting them in line with actual conditions and clearly designating parking areas. Inside the terminals, the airport is making full use of the capacity of check-in counters, boarding gates and baggage conveyor belts, while increasing personnel to provide direct assistance at locations at risk of congestion.

The biometric system has also been prioritised for smooth operation, with technical staff on regular standby. At the same time, the airport is coordinating with the Airport Immigration Police to arrange separate immigration and emigration areas for Vietnamese citizens, dedicated lanes for foreign passengers, flight crews and others, helping passengers complete procedures quickly. The airport will also continue to promote the effectiveness of the Airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM) model to optimise flight operations management and improve the on-time performance indicator.

The airport has also requested service providers to strictly comply with regulations and ensure the quality of passenger services, including for early-morning and late-night flights, while maintaining professional conduct and service attitudes towards passengers. To ensure a convenient and speedy journey, Noi Bai International Airport recommends that passengers proactively check in online via the website or mobile application, use their VNeID digital identity accounts, or use check-in kiosks and biometric kiosks at the terminal to save time waiting at traditional counters.

In addition, passengers should carefully check their travel documents, baggage regulations and prohibited or restricted items on board; proactively calculate travel time and arrive two hours before departure for domestic flights and three hours before departure for international flights to complete aviation, security and customs procedures as fully as possible; follow the signs and directions and cooperate with the authorities regulating traffic at the terminal to ensure the fastest access in compliance with regulations.
