Among them are a number of major works, including the Thu Thiem–Long Thanh railway line; the Ho Tram–Long Thanh International Airport Expressway; the expansion of Nguyen Tat Thanh Street; the Cai Mep Ha Seaport cluster; and the Can Gio–Vung Tau sea-crossing bridge/tunnel project.
At the same time, under the plan issued by the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee on May 4 to organise activities marking the 136th birth anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh (May 19, 1890 – May 19, 2026) and the 115th anniversary of his departure in search of a path for national salvation (June 5, 1911 – June 5, 2026), a wide range of commemorative events will be held. These include “return-to-the-roots” activities, ceremonies honouring exemplary individuals, tree-planting campaigns in tribute to President Ho Chi Minh, and a range of exhibitions, book fairs, artistic performances, and sports events, taking place across the city and in Nghe An Province — his homeland.
Notably, the city is linking these commemorative activities with the practical implementation of studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s thought, with particular emphasis on the cause of education through preparations for the 2026–2027 academic year.
To mark the occasion, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has also launched an emulation movement across the entire political system.
In the second and third quarters of 2026, the city aims to implement at least 200 celebratory projects, focusing on five key areas: promoting Ho Chi Minh’s cultural legacy; building new-style rural areas and civilised urban spaces; ensuring social welfare; supporting maritime and island communities; and safeguarding national security.
