Online marketing helps improve business efficiency

The development of online marketing not only boosts e-commerce but also helps improve business efficiency, heard attendees at the Vietnam Online Marketing Forum (VOMF) held in Hanoi on August 26.

At the forum, leading experts from at home and abroad stressed the importance of platform-thinking approach to customers, as well as the efficiency of advertisements on search tools.

They also noted that businesses must thoroughly understand their operation so as to figure out an optimized strategy for marketing, which should be a mixture of different advertisement forms such as email, video and social networks.

Advertising companies should also keep updated on advanced technologies in order to provide better services for customers and reduce dependence on foreign companies.

According to Nguyen Thanh Hung, chairman of the Vietnam e-Commerce Association (VECOM), the event’s organiser, although online marketing has a strong connection to business, many Vietnamese businesses have not yet paid proper attention to this tool.

Dang Thuy Ha, Director of Nielsen Vietnam in the northern region, said that spending for online marketing has increased in the overall spending for advertising for businesses.

In the Asian Pacific region, the portion was 32.3% in 2015 and the figure is predicted to be 36.3% in 2016.

In Vietnam, online retailers posted sales of US$4 billion last year and they target to reach US$10 billion in 2020, accounting for 5% of Vietnam's total retail sales. To reach the target, businesses need to utilise the efficiency of online advertising channel.
