Following the opening ceremony at Ngu Hanh Park, delegates, residents and tourists joined a 2-kilometre run, while members of the city armed forces also took part in a 1-kilometre collective run competition.
The event was held by the Da Nang Department of Culture and Sports in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Da Nang’s liberation and the 79th anniversary of Vietnam Sports Day.
Citing Uncle Ho’s teachings on health, Nguyen Trong Thao, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Culture and Sports, emphasised that exercise not only benefits each individual but also contributes to the development of the community and country.
Recognising the importance of this, the public sports movement in Da Nang City has grown strongly over the years.
Sports activities have attracted an increasing number of participants, contributing to improved physical fitness, enhanced quality of life, and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle within the community.
As a result, the number of people engaging in sports training and competitions has risen, with many sports clubs being established and operating in an organised manner.
Thao said the Olympic Day Run is not only a sporting event but also a call for people to make sport and exercise a daily habit to help build a healthy and dynamic Da Nang.
