During his on-site inspection of the management and protection of maritime and island borders at the Co To Island Battalion, Brigade 242, and Co To Border Guard Station, the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee’s leader praised and acknowledged the achievements of the officers and soldiers in recent times.

Highlighting the strategic importance of Co To Island, the Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee emphasised that resistance readiness is the foremost critical task. He urged the armed forces stationed on the island to overcome difficulties, remain vigilant, and proactively handle all situations to ensure security and order in the area, aiming to firmly safeguard the sacred sovereignty of the nation's seas and islands.

Thang encouraged the armed forces and civilians on the island to continue fostering solidarity and cohesion, ensuring the successful implementation of socio-economic development tasks, maintaining security and order, and protecting the local environment.

In response, the officers and soldiers on Co To Island pledged to overcome all difficulties, uphold unity, collaboration, and creativity to excel in their mission of safeguarding the sacred sovereignty and security of the nation's borders. They also committed to actively contributing to economic development and vowed to build Co To into a prosperous, civilised, and strong island district with robust national defence capabilities, firmly protecting the nation's maritime sovereignty.

After inspecting the anchorage and storm shelter project for fishing vessels on Co To Island, Thang stressed the project's importance for the socio-economic development of the island. He urged the project’s investors, local authorities, and related units to explore supplementary investments, such as enhancing port infrastructure, fishery logistics zones, and supporting facilities.

Furthermore, Secretary Vu Dai Thang encouraged Co To District to propose additional infrastructure projects to support service and tourism development. He particularly stressed focusing on projects catering to high-spending, upscale tourists, which could create new growth drivers for the local tourism sector and improve residents' income.

The regional-scale project, designed to accommodate up to 1,200 fishing vessels with capacities of up to 800 horsepower, has a total investment of 659 billion VND. To date, more than 41% of the construction has been completed, with the project expected to be finished by 2025.

As part of his visit, Secretary of Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee Vu Dai Thang and his delegation also attended a flag-raising ceremony and offered incense and flowers at the nationally significant historical site honouring President Ho Chi Minh on Co To Island.
