The event, jointly held by the Hanoi People's Committee and the Ministry of Information and Communications, is part of the activities celebrating the 70th anniversary of the capital's Liberation Day (October 10, 1954 – 2024) and the 35th anniversary of UNESCO's designation of Hanoi as a "City for Peace".
The event featured 250 booths displaying book titles on topics ranging from economics and politics to culture, army, and diplomacy, as well as publications on Hanoi’s history, people and culture.
Along with introducing many book titles in diverse genres and offering special promotion programmes, participating publishers and book companies organised interesting exchange programmes with readers.
Notably, a seminar introducing a book series entitled ‘Lich Su Viet Nam Bang Hinh’ (History of Vietnam in Pictures) was held within the fair’s framework, attracting enthusiastic participation from researchers and book lovers.

Released by Dong A Cultural Joint Stock Company and the University of Education Publishing House, the book is the outcome of 17-year research by the project team.
It features nearly 2,000 illustrations and maps, helping readers approach Vietnamese history visually and vividly.
Associate Professor Dr Phan Ngoc Huyen, from Faculty of History, Hanoi National University of Education, highly appreciated the layout and content of the book.
He hailed that the publication has an impressive structure, easy-to-understand and easy-to-remember information with updated knowledge.
“It is truly necessary for every family, every age, and even Vietnamese people abroad who want to learn about Vietnamese history,” he said, adding that the book contributes to spreading the cultural and historical values of the nation to readers.
Another highlight of this year’s book fair is a book donation programme for Hanoi suburban schools, which have been heavily affected by Typhoon Yagi.
As a result, nearly 20,000 books, notebooks, and school supplies were donated to the organisers.
Kim Dong Publishing House donated 5,000 children's books and stories; Vietnam Education Publishing House gave away 2,000 textbooks; AES Education Technology Joint Stock Company handed over 2,000 textbooks.
The books were then delivered to the Hanoi Department of Information and Communications, the Department of Education and Training and the Hanoi Youth Union to classify before being presented to schools affected by natural disasters.
The success of the 2014 event has proved that the Hanoi Book Fair has established itself as a venue for book lovers and a meeting place for domestic and foreign publishing units.
It has contributed to promoting reading culture, encouraging reading habits, and stimulating community reading movements to build a learning society.
