“Red Rain” was produced by the People’s Army Cinema and directed by Meritorious Artist Dang Thai Huyen. The film covers historical and revolutionary resistant war themes, portraying the brave and resilient battles of soldiers from Squad 1, K3 Tam Son at the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel, amid extreme shortages, hardships, and fierce confrontations against strong forces in terms of troop numbers, strength, weapons, and equipment.
The film has participation of artists such as Do Nhat Hoang, Le Ha Anh, Nguyen Dinh Khang, Lam Thanh Nha, Hua Vi Van, Steven Nguyen, and others.
In its more than a month in theatres, “Red Rain” continuously broke box-office records, earning over 700 billion VND, becoming the highest-grossing Vietnamese film as well as the most successful historical and revolutionary resistant war film in history.
The “Red Rain” version on TV360 is presented in 4K international-standard quality, vividly reproducing large-scale battlefield scenes, soldiers’ expressions, and historical settings.
The fact that “Red Rain” surpassed 1 million views just 24 hours after being released available for free on TV360 demonstrates the film’s strong appeal and public influence.
According to Viettel, viewership surged dramatically on the first day of release, with peak moments reaching more than 60,000 simultaneous viewers on the TV360 platform.
As “Red Rain” concluded its theatrical run, director and Meritorious Artist Dang Thai Huyen expressed deep emotion and gratitude to the more than 8 million viewers, and all the feedback — both praise and critique — received during its release. She noted that ending the theatrical screening does not mean the journey is over; instead, it marks the beginning of a new phase, bringing the film to a wider audience, especially to viewers in remote and disadvantaged areas.
The free release of “Red Rain” film is considered an effort to bring a film rich in historical value to a broader audience, particularly those with limited access to entertainment infrastructure. TV360 stated that the programme aims to ensure that everyone can watch the film without barriers related to cost, geography, or cinema infrastructure.
“We want every valuable content to reach as many people as possible, especially in areas with limited cultural and information access. This is a core principle Viettel pursues in its products and services,” a representative of TV360 shared.
The near 1 million views recorded on TV360 within the first 24 hours highlights the exceptional reach of OTT platforms, enabling the film to connect with audiences from urban centres to rural areas, from lowlands to remote islands. The fact that many viewers watched at home and discussed the film on social media has helped spread its influence in a new way suited to today’s digital content consumption trends.
This figure also shows the continued strong demand for works carrying historical and cultural value, while opening new approaches for Vietnamese cinema in the digital era. The ability of a Vietnamese historical film to reach widespread audiences through a domestic technology platform also underscores the rising role of OTT services in connecting and disseminating cultural content across all regions.
