Huynh Minh Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee, stated that all six red-crowned cranesare currently in good and stable health, and therefore meet the conditions required for their transfer to Tram Chim National Park in Tam Nong District, Dong Thap Province.
These are the first “ambassadors” under the collaborative programme between the Dong Thap People’s Committee, the International Crane Foundation, the Vietnam Zoo Association, the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens, and partners from Thailand.

Huynh Minh Tuan expressed his sincere gratitude to Ms Wiraka Moodhitaporn, Consul General of Thailand in Ho Chi Minh City, for her support. He acknowledged her important role as a bridge between the Mekong Delta province and Thai partners, helping to make this meaningful milestone possible.
“I firmly believe that, with the determination of our local authorities, the support of our valued partners, and the community’s love for nature, we will successfully restore the red-crowned crane population—not only for Dong Thap, but as a meaningful contribution to the protection of biodiversity in Vietnam and across Southeast Asia,” he stressed.

Previously, as reported by Nhan Dan Newspaper, on April 10, 2025, the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens received the first six red-crowned cranes, which had been transferred from the Kingdom of Thailand. The birds were placed under quarantine and veterinary monitoring at the zoo following international procedures.
