National labour safety week launched

The 17th National Week on Occupational Health and Safety – Fire and Explosion Prevention was launched at a ceremony in Vung Tau city, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province on March 15.

The ceremony saw the presence of representatives from central and local agencies, the International Labour Organisation, the International Section of the International Social Security Association on Prevention in the Mining Industry and over 4,000 workers in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province.

Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs Doan Mau Diep affirmed the Party and State’s focus on ensuring labour safety and health and preventing fires in production and daily life to limit losses for businesses and protect the lives of citizens.

The programme’s steering committee stated key tasks in 2015 and asked ministries, localities, businesses and workers to have specific plans on ensuring labour safety and hygiene, preventing fires, improving education on prevention and punishing violations strictly.

Businesses and individuals who made outstanding contributions to ensuring occupational safety and preventing fires in 2014 were honoured at the ceremony with certificates of merit from the Government, the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour and the Ba Ria-Vung Tau provincial People’s Committee.

After the ceremony, fire prevention, fighting and rescue police of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province and the Russian-Vietnamese Oil and Gas Joint Venture (Vietsovpetro) conducted a fire prevention and fire fighting demonstration at the Vietsovpetro Health Centre.

The 18th National Week on Occupational Health and Safety – Fire and Explosion Prevention will be held in the northern province of Hung Yen next year.
