The highlight of the function was a song and dance programme praising President Ho Chi Minh and highlighting the strong connection between the former leader and his home province.
Leaving his home village of Kim Lien in the early 1900s, President Ho Chi Minh, then known as Nguyen Tat Thanh, was unable to return until over half a century later in June 1957, followed by a second visit in December 1961.
In his speech, Nghe An Party Secretary Nguyen Dac Vinh emphasised that throughout his entire life, President Ho Chi Minh always held a deep and sacred sentiment towards his home.
Vinh said that even though he had to leave home in search of a way to liberate the country and bring freedom to his men, President Ho Chi Minh had always thought longingly of his home village.
On June 14, 1957, President Ho Chi Minh was finally able to return to Kim Lien village for the first time, during which time he praised Nghe An’s achievements and chided its drawbacks, with a desire that his home province would become better.
Over a month before his death, President Ho Chi Minh sent a letter to the Nghe An Party Committee, calling on the local people to strive to make Nghe An among the most well-off provinces in Vietnam’s northern region.
Following the former leader’s instructions, Nghe An has since recorded significant achievements in the past few decades, with annual economic growth averaging 7.59% during the 2014-2016 period and income per capita reaching VND31 million (over US$1,360).
Nghe An has also become an attractive destination for both domestic and foreign investors, attracting more than VND161 trillion (US$7 billion) through 372 projects.
At the ceremony, Pham Minh Chinh, head of the Central Organisation Commission, congratulated Nghe An for its achievements in the past 60 years and urged the province to build on its strengths in order to realise President Ho Chi Minh’s wish.
